the basic factors of LED display effect

With the continuous advancement of smart city construction, LED displays are widely used in all walks of life, and users have increasingly higher requirements for display effects. There are many factors that affect the display effect of LED displays, including the following basic factors, resolution and pixel density, brightness and contrast, grayscale and color.

Resolution and Pixel Density

When choosing an LED display, resolution and pixel density are two important parameters.

Resolution refers to the number of horizontal and vertical pixels on the display screen, usually expressed as the number of horizontal pixels × the number of vertical pixels. The higher the resolution, the clearer the display and the finer the image details.

Pixel density refers to the number of pixels per unit area, usually expressed as the number of pixels per square meter. Therefore, the higher the pixel density, the more delicate the display effect and the closer the viewing distance. Therefore, when choosing an LED display screen, you need to determine the appropriate resolution based on the actual usage scenario and needs. The higher the resolution, the clearer the display and the finer the image details.

In indoor applications, you can generally choose a higher pixel density; in outdoor large-screen applications, you need to consider factors such as viewing distance and cost to determine the appropriate pixel density.

Brightness and Contrast

Brightness determines the visibility of the screen in different environments, while contrast affects the clarity of the image and the degree of color reproduction.

Higher brightness allows the screen to remain clearly visible in bright environments, while higher contrast makes images more vivid and vivid.

In outdoor applications where displays need to be exposed to sunlight for a long time, LED displays with higher brightness and contrast are more likely to be chosen.

In daily use, it is also very important to reasonably set the brightness and contrast of the LED display. Too high or too low brightness will affect the user's viewing comfort and may cause eye fatigue. Too low or too high contrast will affect image quality and color reproduction.

Grayscale and Color

Grayscale imaging principle

The gray level mainly depends on the number of digital-to-analog conversion bits of the system. Of course, the system's video processing chip, memory and transmission system must provide support for the corresponding number of bits.

At present, LED displays mainly use:

◎8-bit processing system, that is, 256 (2 to the 8th power) levels of grayscale. A simple understanding is that there are 256 brightness changes from black to white.

◎10-bit processing system, that is, 1024 (2 to the 10th power) levels of grayscale. A simple understanding is that there are 1024 brightness changes from black to white.

◎12-bit processing system, that is, 4096 (2 to the 12th power) levels of grayscale. A simple understanding is that there are 4096 brightness changes from black to white.

◎14-bit processing system, that is, 16384 (2 to the 14th power) levels of grayscale. A simple understanding is that there are 16,384 brightness changes from black to white.

CAILIANG reminds

The display effect of LED display is affected by many factors. When selecting and using, it is necessary to comprehensively consider all the above aspects and take corresponding measures to ensure its normal operation and good effect. Only by comprehensively understanding and effectively managing these factors can the role of LED displays in various occasions be better utilized.
